Ocean Hills Social Clubs Clarifies Oversight and Club Recognition Regarding Butterfly Sanctuary Access

Oceanside, CA – May 8, 2025 –

The Ocean Hills Social Clubs (OHSC), a 501(c)(7) non-profit mutual benefit corporation, reaffirms its role in overseeing the 40 active clubs within the Ocean Hills Country Club community. Since its establishment in 1989, the OHSC has been responsible for legal compliance, federal and state tax reporting, and regular club oversight. Its Board of Directors is appointed by Governing Members who also serve as Master Board Directors.

Save the Monarch Butterfly Club is Recognized in Good Standing

The Save the Monarch Butterfly Club (SMBC), established and awarded club status in 2021, is currently recognized by the OHSC as the sole club with access to the butterfly sanctuary. As with all clubs under OHSC, SMBC enjoys full club benefits and is in good standing. The current Interim Board of Directors for the Club includes Jean Hefler, Anita Simons, Diane Hillman, Jackie Crosby and Adele Siesel.

Clarification on Non-Recognized Entities

The OHSC would like to clarify that it does not recognize any organization under the name “The Butterfly Club” as an official or sanctioned club within the Ocean Hills community.

Save The Monarch Butterfly Foundation

The OHSC has recently been made aware of the formation of the Save The Monarch Butterfly Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation. While the Foundation has been established with the purpose of supporting butterfly-related work in the community, i does not currently hold club status within OHSC. Accordingly, the Foundation does not yet have access to community club privileges such as the butterfly sanctuary or free use of meeting rooms and Clubhouse facilities

We welcome the Foundation as a benefactor to the Save the Monarch Butterfly Club. We encourage a collaborative and mutually beneficial relationship. With proper structure and cooperation, this could grow into an inspiring partnership for the community. The Foundation’s Board of Directors includes Myra Esler, Marsha Locke, Gail Burnett, and David Esler.
